Process and requirements for export of animal products for commercial purposes:

  1. Registered exporters must apply to export animal products using an “export application form” and have a Biosecurity Approved Premises (BAP) in place.
  2. Once the export application is received, the information provided on the form is verified by the receiving BAF officer.
  3. Please note an import permit may be issued by the country receiving the goods and it is the exporter’s responsibility to obtain this import permit. Pacific Island Countries like Kiribati, Tonga and Samoa do issue import permits for animal products.
  4. A “health certificate” is needed from the country of origin if the product(s) is not of Fiji origin, meaning if the products are being re-exported from Fiji.
  5. Once all the documents are in order, inspection of the export product(s) is carried out. The exporter has to apply for inspection using the B1 form. Booking for inspection must be done 24 hours prior to when inspection is required.
  6. Upon inspection, an invoice is issued and appropriate payment is collected.
  7. After inspection, the health certificate is processed and forwarded to the Animal Permit Team for further endorsement and approval by the BAF veterinarian.
  8. Processing of the health certificate usually takes 2-3 days. Hence, it is important to have all documentation in place and inspection completed, well in time for the health certificate to be issued before the shipment is due to leave Fiji.
