Importation Of Seafood Products For Personal Use Into Fiji

The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) & Ministry of Fisheries (MoF) sets following conditions for the import of seafood products from any
country. Please note for the product listed below you are only allowed to bring collectively less than 10kg of all products into Fiji. To bring
more than 10kg of any of these permissible products will require an Import Permit.

1. Importation of crustacean( Eg: Shrimp, Prawn, Lobster, crabs , etc ) for non-commercial (personal) use
• No Import Permit required from BAF/ MoF

a) Shrimps/Prawn have to be frozen, head and shell removed
Or
Shrimps/Prawn have to be cooked, head removed
b) Crabs-Frozen and clean (no eggs in female cabs)
Or
Crabs to be cooked
c) Any other crustacean ( Lobster, etc ) have to be frozen, clean, head & shell removed
Or
Any other crustacean (Lobster, etc ) have to be cooked, head removed

• Must be packaged properly.
• The import consignment is subject to inspection on arrival to verify that there are no live crustacean in the import
and to ensure freedom from contamination

2. Importation of Molluscs (oyster, scallop, etc) from any country for non-commercial (personal) use
• No Import Permit required from BAF/ MoF
• Molluscs have to be frozen, clean, and shell removed
Or
• Molluscs have to be cooked and shell removed
• Must be packaged properly
• Must be inspected on arrival to verify that there are no live molluscs in the import and to ensure freedom from
contamination

3. Importation of Fish from any country for non-commercial (personal) use

• No Import Permit required from BAF/ MoF
• Fish have to be frozen and clean
Or
• Fish have to be cooked.
• Must be packaged properly
• Must be inspected on arrival to verify that there are no live fish in the import and to ensure freedom from contamination

4. Highly processed aquatic animal products ( Any process feed such Shrimp feed, etc ) for non-commercial (personal) use

• No Import Permit required from BAF/MoF.
• The product should be commercially prepared and packaged;
• The product should be in its original sealed packaging on arrival;
• The country of origin must be identifiable from the packaging;
• The product should be labeled and packaged in English labeling
• No head
• The product should be shelf-stable.
• Aquatic animal products will not be permitted if they are processed or mixed with any other animal products (egg, dairy, or any
other animal origin)

Frozen prawn with head and shell, Not Allowed

Cooked prawn with head and tail, Not Allowed

Frozen lobster and other crustaceans without head
and without shell, Allowed

Frozen lobster and other crustaceans with Head and
with shell, Not allowed

Frozen crab, Allowed

Frozen female crab with eggs, Not allowed

Cooked crab, Allowed

Cooked lobster and other crustaceans without head,
with shell, Allowed

Frozen molluscs (Oyster, scallops, etc) with shell, Not Allowed

Cooked molluscs (Oyster, Scallops,etc) without shell, Allowed

Frozen clean molluscs (Oyster, scallops, etc) without shell, Allowed

Frozen fish, Allowed

Cooked fish, Allowed

Any import of seafood products of more than 10 kg or 22.04lbs is
categorized as a commercial consignment and requires an import permit from Ministry of Fisheries.
