🚨 Farmers – Look Out for Fall Armyworm Damage! 🚨
The Fall Armyworm (FAW) is an invasive pest attacking maize and other crops in Fiji. It spreads rapidly and causes serious damage if not detected and managed early.
📸 If you see damage like in the pictures below, such as:
✅ Ragged or chewed leaves
✅ Holes in the whorl of the plant
✅ Frass (insect droppings) near feeding sites
✅ Caterpillars with white stripes and an inverted “Y” on the head
📞 Call the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) immediately!
Your quick action can protect your farm and your community.
🗣️ “Farmers are our first line of defense. If you notice signs of Fall Armyworm, report it straight away. Together, we can reduce the impact on our food systems and protect our livelihoods.”
— Chief Plant Protection Officer, BAF
This awareness and response effort is being carried out jointly by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, and the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF) to protect our agricultural sector from this destructive pest.
📍 Let’s work together to stop the spread of FAW and safeguard Fiji’s agriculture and food security.
